Abstract

Purpose: This study is to identify the factors affecting career maturity of nursing students.

Methods: Data were collected from nursing students in one universitiy in B city, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Scheffe test, Pearson s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.

Career maturity was negatively correlated with perceived career barriers (r=-.593, p£¼.001) and positively correlated with career decision-making self-efficacy (r=.443, p£¼.001), selfesteem (r=.443, p£¼.001) The affecting factors on career maturity were perceived career barriers (¥â=-.458, p£¼.001), career decision-making self-efficacy (¥â=.205, p=.001), self-esteem (¥â=-.185, p=.002), taken clinical practicum (¥â=-.161, p=.002), interpersonal relationship (¥â=.149, p=.004), satisfaction with major (¥â=.143, p=.006). These variables explained 42.5% of total variance on the career maturity.

Conclusion: Therefore, in order to increase the career maturity of nursing students, it is necessary to develop and implement curriculum and comparative educational programs that can decrease the perception of the perceived career barriers and to increase career decision-making self-efficacy and selfesteem.
